In all, 1,530 homes were seized by lenders from April through June after people defaulted on their mortgages, according to data from the N.C. Administrative Office of the Courts. That's down from 1,648 for the same period in 2003, the year total foreclosures peaked in the Raleigh-Cary and Durham metropolitan statistical areas.

The nearly $1 billion idea turns out to be a massive scientific and economic revitalization project that will encompass the former Cannon Mills plant and entire downtown area of Kannapolis. And to do it in about five years while creating about 35,000 jobs.

DURHAM -- Colonial Properties Trust of Birmingham, Ala., and a partner paid $31.75 million, or about $85,811 per unit, for Alta Trace apartments at 400 Stone Lion Drive.
The complex was built in 2002 and is 92.4 percent occupied. Since the acquisition closed last month, the partners have renamed the 370-unit complex the Colonial Grand at Research Park.

Colonial owns or manages 47,700 apartment units, 8.3 million square feet of office space and 13.5 million square feet of retail shopping space.
