"New and expanding companies helped the office vacancy rate tighten to 14.2 percent in the second quarter -- the lowest it has been since 2002, according to research by Highwoods Properties. The vacancy rate was down from 15 percent in the first quarter and down from 16.5 percent a year ago.
Because the market was flooded with supply, the average asking rents for class-A offices dropped to $18.67 per square foot in the second quarter from $20.03 per square foot four years ago."
